Summary:Neðst á síðunni er hægt að nálgast greinina í heild sinni með því að smella á hlekkinn Skoða/Opna(view/open) In recent years there has been in Iceland some discussion toward changing the drug regimen used in long term anticoagulation therapy. Studies on the effectiveness, complications and other aspects of anticoagulant therapy are however rare in Iceland. This is a report from a study on long term anticoagulant therapy with special emphasis on the incidence of complications, bleeding and other. At the General District Hospital of Akureyri (FSA) over a 6 years period, 378 patients started on an anticoagulant therapy, whereof 147 continued for 3 months or more. Those 147 patients, 90 men and 57 women, mean age 62 years, made up our study group. The main indications for therapy were; »deep vein thrombophlebitis«, »coronary artery bypass graft«, »atrial fibrillation«, »pulmonary embolism« and »artiflcial heart valves«. Bleeding complications were found with 9 patients (6,1%) thereof 2 (1,4%) had serious episodes. Recurrences of indicative problem occurred with 7 patients (4,8%), 4 (2,8%) while on treatment. Those results are comparable to those of studies of similar design from other countries. In conclusion we state that the long term anticoagulant therapy is effective and without undue high rate of complications at the General District Hospital of Akureyri. Changes in treatment regimen are therefore not recommended without further prospective studies. Með þessu greinarkorni vilja höfundar skýra frá könnun á blóðþynningarmeðferð á Fjórðungssjúkrahúsinu á Akureyri á sex ára tímabili 1981-1987. Um var að ræða afturvirka könnun með megináherslu á tíðni fylgikvilla hjá þeim, sem á ofangreindu tímabili byrjuðu á langtímameðferð með blóðþynningarlyfjum. Meðferðarlengd þurfti að hafa verið að minnsta kosti þrír mánuðir. Forsendur þessarar vinnu voru þær að fá hlutlægt mat á blóðþynningarmeðferð með tilliti til hugmynda um að breyta um tegund blóðþynningarlyfja hér á landi, en nokkuð hefur verið rætt um þörf þess að ...
