Summary:Neðst á síðunni er hægt að nálgast greinina í heild sinni með því að smella á hlekkinn Skoða/Opna(view/open) The main purpose of this study is to find out the incidence of congenital anomalies of the heart in Iceland, based on autopsies carried out at the Department of Pathology of the University of Iceland in the years 1957-76. The investigation includes all perinatal cases (stilborn and neonatal cases) as well as 0-1 year old autopsy cases. Most of these cases were from the Obstetric and Gynecologic Department of the Landspitali (the University Hospital in Reykjavik), the Lying in Hospital of Reykjavik and the Pediatric Department of the Landspitali. About 30% of the cases came from other parts of the country. In the course of this investigation 1052 autopsies were scrutinized, whereof 256, 24% had more or less serious malformations, and of these cases 80% were considered primary causes of death. These 256 cases of congenital malformations included 107 cases of anomalies of the heart or 42% of all malformations and 10% of all autopsies under review. Of these 59% were considered primary causes of death. The most common localities for congenital abnormalities of the heart were the ventricular septum, the atrial septum and the great arteries. The most common specific lesions of the heart were defects of the ventricular septum (VSD), 22% atresia of the aortic orifice (AO atresia) 7,5%, tansposition of the great wessels (TGA) 7,5% and defects of the foramen ovale (ASD secundum) 6,5%. Of 390 stillborn cases 11, 28 per 1000 had anomalies of the heart, of which 45% were ventricular septal defects (VSD) and 18% persistent truncus arteriosus (TACP). These results are comparable to what is found elsewhere Ört vaxandi hjartaþræðingar frá 1970 (1) og umræða og nú framkvæmd hjartaaðgerða hér á landi, hafa orðið undirrituðum sérstakur hvati til að draga eigi lengur birtingu þessarar ritgerðar, sem raunar var að mestu lokið fyrir nokkrum árum.
