Summary:Neðst á síðunni er hægt að nálgast greinina í heild sinni með því að smella á hlekkinn Skoða/Opna(view/open) Surveys among the population aged 20 to 49 years in 1974 and 20 to 59 years in 1984 showed an increase in the proportion of the population consuming alcohol, especially among women and in the younger age groups. The average amount consumed on each occasion by men decreased slightly while the frequency of drinking occasions increased slightly. The average amount consumed by women remained unchanged. The proportion of respondents consuming wine and strong beer on their last drinking occasion increased although the sale of beer stronger than 2.25 vol% is not permitted. In spite of these changes in drinking habits consumption of intoxicating amounts prevails. The prevalence of symptoms indicating alcohol abuse decreased slightly and so did the prevalence of heavy drinking. It is doubtful if this indicates a real decrease in the prevalence of alcohol abuse as the response rate was considerably lower in 1984 than in 1974 and as it is known that alcoholics are overrepresented among the non-respondents. The prevalence of alcohol dependence defined by the respondent considering his alcohol use a personal problem, having impaired control of drinking and taking a drink the morning after a heavy drinking session remained practically unchanged while more respondents in 1984 than in 1974 said they had sought help for their drinking problems. Rannsóknir á áfengisneyslu Íslendinga sem voru 20-49 ára 1974 og þeirra sem voru 20-59 ára 1984 sýna, að áfengisneytendum hefur fjölgað hlutfallslega, einkum konum og yngra fólki. Meðalneysla karla í hvert skipti minnkaði aðeins, en meðalneysla kvenna hélst svipuð. Hins vegar var drukkið oftar 1984 en 1974. Neysla léttra vína hefur aukist. Þrátt fyrir þessar breytingar á neysluvenjum sérkennist drykkja Íslendinga áfram af ölvunardrykkju eins og sést af því, að tveir þriðju hlutar karla á aldrinum 20-49 ára sem neyta áfengis drekka venjulega 6 skammta eða meira í hvert skipti á ...
