Summary:Neðst á síðunni er hægt að nálgast greinina í heild sinni með því að smella á hlekkinn Skoða/Opna(view/open) Drug prescriptions in Sudurnes and Hafnarfjördur, Iceland. The Nordic Council on Medicines has published statistics on drug use and made comparisons of the drug sales/utilization in the Nordic countries. There it has been pointed out that more studies are needed at regional levels within each country. The purposes of the study were to analyse the present situation by using epidemiological methods. Furthermore this was to be the first step in a longitudinal survey. The study was in particular focused upon number of prescriptions, prescribed times, the most usual groups of drugs, number of patients and their age and sex. Analysis of the prescribing habits were ment to be useful for doctors' self evaluation, for medical audit and pre- and postgraduate education. Sudurnes district includes 14.326 inhabitants. There is one health centre with five working GPs and one local hospital with some specialists. The distance from Reykjavk, the capital town of Iceland is about 35 km. Hafnarfjördur is in a distance of 10 km from Reykjavik with 13,250 inhabitants, one health centre, six GPs and one local hospital. The age distribution of the populations in these two municipalities are similar, both with a somewhat lower precentage of older people and higher number in the younger ages compared to whole Iceland. All prescriptions during the period were collected and computerized. Totally 6543 prescriptions were prescribed to 4,644 patients which means 15.8 prescriptions/1000 inh./day or 5.8 prescriptions/inh./year. In Sudurnes GPs were responsible for 82% of all drug prescriptions compared with 60% in Hafnarfjördur (p< 0.001). Corresponding figures for prescriptions by specialists were 15% and 24% respectively. Ávísanir á lyf og lyfjasala eru oft notuð sem mælikvarði á lyfjaneyslu þótt það sé reyndar nauðsynlegt að setja vissan fyrirvara um túlkun gagna af því tagi. Með því að kanna lyfseðla og lyfjaávísanir má m.a.: ...
