Summary:The theme of this thesis relates to integration of ancient culture’s ethnic symbolism into modern art, as well as leather, textile and natural resource combinations. In an attempt to see if ethnic culture still remains important to the people of today, and how folk art with ancient traditions, translates through ornaments into modern art without losing archaic meanings of symbolism, the two time periods were chosen—pre-Christianity and 20th-21st century as a topic for the synthesis. The theme of the thesis formulated based on the title ―Baltic sea regions ancient culture’s reflection in leather.‖ The objective of this thesis is to reveal the importance of Baltic sea region’s folk art to the average person of today, find the connection between modern art, and create a two sets of accessories combining both leather and textile based on historical facts and performed research, as well as modern design. For the presented goal, these tasks are offered: collect and analyze information from verified historical sources. Compare the archeological finds from pre-Christianity Baltic region tribes during their existence, and review the folk art created today in the same regional area, perform a study in the form of an interview, searching for connections, similarities and differences between the most notable Baltic sea regions folk art, review modern art creators from various regions in the world, analyze their work, concepts, cultural heritage influences on textile, leather and ornamentation areas in their works, creative two part idea of creating sketches reflective of ancient culture and modern art synthesis, showcase and harmonize ancient Baltic sea region culture’s traditional elements with modern materials and design, prepare patterns, create accessories, haberdashery accordingly. During the literature sources analysis, there will be comparison between three Baltic Sea region nations: Baltic, Sámi and Viking tribes, as well as reflecting to modern art in those regions.
