| Summary: | iv, 58 p. In the hot summer after senior year of high school year I pulled a book off a shelf at the local library. The book featured a glossy white cover with a ship cradled by pack ice, pushing it up to the skies. It seemed a promising read by the jacket. I was hooked on Shackleton's ill-fated expedition of the Endurance. Since then, I have been unable to stop learning about an often forgotten, at least in the American consciousness, continent. I learned of Mawson, Scott, Amundsen, Pontings, Cherry and Oates. I couldn't understand how the most impressive people and continent I could ever imagine remains be an empty white space in most people's minds. Since then, my interest and love for Antarctica has only grown, adding natural and social sciences, to the history that first hooked me. I hope that I can impart the impressiveness in the variety of a land without any terrestrial animals or plants, covered thick in miles of ice and with the potential to change coastlines around the world.
