Description
Summary:Introduction: Glycemia is a preponderant characteristic of certain chronic metabolic syndromes prevalent in the world and constitutes a public health problem, where Azadirachta indica has traditionally been used to normalize blood glucose levels for more than four thousand years. as a therapeutic alternative. Objective: To determine the effect on glycemia in experimental diabetes in Rattus rattus Var Albinus of the freeze-dried aqueous extract of the fruit Azadirachta indica A. Juss, “Neem”, at 200 mg and 400 mgMethod: An experimental, prospective, longitudinal design was used with a sample of 30 male rats divided into 3 groups that were experimentally induced diabetes with streptozotocin, two groups were administered two doses of lyophilized aqueous Neen extract and the third one with water ad libitum as placebo. Results: On day 1 he had an average glucose concentration of 283.7 ± 7.7 mg / dl; For the 7th day, a concentration of 179.5 ± 6.4 mg / dl was observed; for the 14th day, the average glucose concentration was 91.1 ± 9.1 mg / dl; and for day 21 an average glucose concentration of 84.4 ± 11.6 mg / dl was obtained, finally a concentration for day 28 the average glucose of 60.2 ± 4.9 mg / dl.Conclusions: The lyophilized extract of the Neem fruit has a hypoglycemic effect at doses of 200 mg and 400 mg.
