Description
Summary:A short description of the work of Jack D. Ives is presented, as a tribute to this protagonist in the development of geoecological studies in mountain areas. His research in arctic and mountain environments (particularly the Rocky Mountains and the Himalayas) has provided a new global perspective, in which human activities and the organisation of human societies are the major factors explaining the complexity of mountain environments.
