Summary:The Mammal Collection of the Universidad del Valle (UV) has 13683 specimens (count until January 2022) classified into 14 orders, 57 families, 202 genera, and 384 species, collected since 1966 in 27 of the 32 departments of Colombia. Additionally, the collection houses specimens from countries such as Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, the United States, and Venezuela. In the collection, there are individuals of endemic or rare species such as Handleyomys intectus, Proechimys canicollis and Neogale felipei, as well as the holotypes of the taxa Orthogeomys thaeleri Alberico, 1990, Platyrrhinus chocoensis Alberico & Velasco, 1991, and Cynomops kuizha Arenas-Vivero et al. 2021. The collection also houses individuals of exotic species such as Macropus rufus (red kangaroo), Panthera tigris (tiger), and Ursus arctos (brown bear), as well as a collection of North American specimens, including the mountain beaver (Aplodontia rufa) and the northern flying squirrel (Glaucomys sabrinus). The collection specimens have been used in developing scientific research at a national and international level, training of biologists at a regional level, and community outreach. La Colección de Mamíferos de la Universidad del Valle (UV) cuenta con 13683 especímenes (conteo a enero del 2022) clasificados en 14 órdenes, 57 familias, 202 géneros y 384 especies, recolectados desde 1966 en 27 de los 32 departamentos de Colombia. Adicionalmente, contiene especímenes provenientes de países como Brasil, Costa Rica, Estados Unidos, México, Perú y Venezuela. En la colección se encuentran individuos de especies endémicas o raras como Handleyomys intectus, Proechimys canicollis y Neogale felipei, así como los holotipos de los taxones Orthogeomys thaeleri Alberico, 1990, Platyrrhinus chocoensis Alberico & Velasco, 1991, y Cynomops kuizha Arenas-Vivero et al. 2021. La colección también alberga individuos de especies exóticas como Macropus rufus (canguro rojo), Panthera tigris (tigre) y Ursus arctos (oso pardo), además de una colección de ...
