Description
Summary:A sedentary group of six bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) has been photoidentified in the Bassin d'Arcachon, S.W. France. The social structure of this group has been determined from statistical analysis of swimming associations, as shown on pictures taken monthly from January 1989 to December 1991. The group includes a mother-infant pair, two females escorting the pair, and a pilot-watcher whose sex remains unknown. The sixth dolphin is a young solitary female which sometimes joins the group, while becoming increasingly familiar towards humans when alone
