| Summary: | The review deals with a critical edition and translation of one of the most important Latin medieval historical works, written in the second half of the XIIth c. at the time of “Civil wars” in Norway. In the introductory essay to the edition of the “History of the Ancient Norwegian Kings” the author aimed to clarify the causes and purposes of composition of the historical work. He suggests that the Norwegian cleric intended to draw attention to the problems of the internal peace and unity of the country. Author’s hard and laborious work is evident from the careful critical edition of the Latin text of “History” and high-quality Russian translation; some shortcomings in the research part are connected with the problem of quotation of ancient texts by Theodoricus. В рецензии рассматривается критическое издание и комментированный перевод одного из важнейших норвежских латинских исторических сочинений, созданного во второй половине XII в. в период т.н. Гражданских войн в Норвегии. В исследовательском очерке, дополняющем издание «Истории о древних норвежских королях» Теодорика Монаха, автор ставит главной задачей выяснить причины и цели написания исторического сочинения. В своей работе автор доказывает стремление норвежского клирика обратить внимание на проблемы внутреннего единства страны и прочного мира. Большая и кропотливая работа автора проявилась в тщательном критическом издании «Истории»; отдельные недостатки исследовательской части работы связаны с проблемой цитирования Теодориком античных текстов.
