| Summary: | „Glacial oasis” in the Cracow-Częstochowa Upland – results of studies during the last fifty years.A b s t r a c t: The question of glaciation of the Cracow-Częstochowa Upland (also known as Polish Jura) during the South Polish Glaciations (Elsterian) is one of the most controversial issues in the Polish Pleistocene palaeogeography. According to S. Z. Różycki (1960), in these times this region became a „concave nunatak” whereas an area from Olsztyn in the north to Krzeszowice in the south was the „Glacial Oasis of Polish Jura”. This hypothesis, derived from Różycki’s field studies in Antarctica (the Bunger Oasis), is still discussed in the Polish literature. The problem is still regarded as open despite of extensive geological mapping of that area. However, in author’s opinion, the presence of Pleistocene glacial oasis appears confirmed by both regional geological studies and the recent glaciological theories.
