| Summary: | INFLUENCE OF LOADING ON CHANGES OF STRUCTURE OF ORGANIC SEDIMENTS AT KOMARNO, BIAŁA PODLASKA DISTRICT Summary A site with sapropelite (bituminous) shales found by E. Falkowski in the area of Biała Podlaska, stimulated the authoress to define the reason for transformations of lake organic sediments into hard and very poorly washed combustible shale deposits. Basing on literature data (E. Falkowski, M. Krupiński) and own laboratory analyses, the organie sapropelite-type lake deposits were found to have been considerable compressed due to loading by the ice sheet. It resulted in their dewatering and formation of stabile organic and organic-mineral bonds which have not reacted with water even after the ice sheet release. Further studies over evaluation of ice sheet pressure to the sediments are continued and finally, they can result in finding the ice sheet thickness in this area.
