Description
Summary:Loess its origin and connection, with the climate of the glacial epochThe origin of loess is discussed here on the basis of facts observed and gathered by the author from 1937 to 1949 in Greenland (the recent loess) and in southeastern Poland (Pleistocene loess). The problem is here examined in the light of the present conceptions, especially the aeolian hypothesis (Richthofen, Tutkovski, Soergel, Hobbs), and the eluvian one (Berg, Ganssen). The author is inclined to agree with the first one, nevertheless he admits that there are some important arguments in the second one, which cannot be overlooked when framing a general idea of the origin of loess.
