Description
Summary:Direction of ice advance during the Middle Polish glaciation in the northern part of the Polish JuraAn attempt is here made to interpret the ice advance of the Middle Polish glaciation in the northern part of the Polish Jura (Cracow-Częstochowa Highland). The writers investigations are based on statistics concerning the percent content of local material in the 1-5 cm. fraction of moraine gravels, as determined by Z. Lamparski (1965) who showed the many-directional ice transport during the advance of the Middle Polish glaciation. The Jura ridge divided the margin of the glacier into two major lobes (the Silesian lobe and the Widawka lobe). These gradually advanced over the barrier of limestone outcrops both from the NE (the lobes of Widawka and of Koniecpol) and from the W (the Silesian lobe). The transgression of the ice sheet advancing generally from the NE to the SW and S was not completed before the final phase preceding the maximum ice transgresion in that glaciation. In addition to the distribution of local erratic boulders, the directions of ice movement are also marked by exaration forms and by glacitectonic disturbances.
