Summary:The article analyzes the current achievements of professional development of teachers in European countries. The relevance of studying and generalizing foreign experience in teacher training in Ukraine is substantiated. The study highlights Eurydice data on national legislation and the International Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) in the 2018 report, which provides an understanding of the impact of national policies on teacher behavior and provides a basis for effective reforms. The report focuses on the professional development of secondary school teachers in Europe and covers all 27 EU Member States, as well as the United Kingdom, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey. The main trends in the professional development of teachers in such areas as working conditions, teaching careers, initial teacher education and induction are identified. There is an increased interest in teacher appraisal which is regulated by educational regulations. The importance of continuing professional development of teachers through the implementation of various in-service training programs is focused on. The effectiveness of factors of teachers’ mobility and well-being is indicated. The main aspects for most European countries regarding effective reforms and new policies are identified. The professional crisis in teaching poses major challenges to the governments of the Council of Europe. National education systems are facing a crisis in the teaching profession, demanding effective measures that can restore the attractiveness of teaching as a choice for the future profession of youth. An analysis of current achievements in teacher professional development for secondary schools identifies key aspects for most European countries of effective reforms and new policies in areas such as primary teacher education, continuing professional development, working conditions, careers, mobility, teacher evaluation and their well-being. The professional crisis in teaching poses major challenges to the governments of the Council of Europe. National education systems are facing a crisis in the teaching profession, demanding effective measures that can restore the attractiveness of teaching as a choice for the future profession of youth. Effective reforms are aimed at improving primary teacher education, improving the working conditions of teachers, reforming career paths and modernizing continuing professional development. У статті проаналізовано сучасні досягнення професійного розвитку вчителів у країнах Європи. Обґрунтовано актуальність вивчення та узагальнення зарубіжного досвіду у підготовці вчителів в Україні. У дослідженні висвітлені дані Eurydice щодо національного законодавства та Міжнародного опитування щодо викладання та навчання (TALIS) у звіті 2018 року, що дозволяє зрозуміти вплив національної політики на поведінку вчителів та забезпечує основу для проведення ефективних реформ.
