| Summary: | We reviewed literature on the use of mature coniferous forest habitat by moose (Alces alces) for evidence that this habitat was critical to moose survival and reproduction. To be considered critical for moose, it would have to be demonstrated that either reduction or elimination of this forest type resulted in lower reproduction, higher mortality, or both in relation to a control area (White and Garrot 1991). We found no studies of this type which would be necessary to prove that mature coniferous habitat was critical to moose. |
