| Summary: | Subject of my thesis is an ethnic identity of modern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The first chapter briefly presents the history of Bosnian territory from the arrival of the Slavs, through the period of Turkish and Austrian rule, until the civil war in the 90s and current events. The second chapter is devoted to the characterization of the ethnic structure of the country and how individual citizens make their identifications. The third chapter addresses the problem of multiconfessional character of the state in which followers of Christianity, Islam and Judaism live side by side. The last chapter clarifies the complicated situation of language issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina, introduces a definition of Bosnian language, its structure and specificity. The issue of national / ethnic identity in the former Yugoslavia, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina, is particularly interesting in a light of negotiations on increasing self-reliance and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the withdrawal of its peacekeeping forces. Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest poszukiwaniu odpowiedzi na pytanie o kształt tożsamości współczesnej Bośni i Hercegowiny. W rozdziale pierwszym została krótko omówiona historia ziem bośniackich od momentu przybycia na jej tereny ludności słowiańskiej, poprzez okres panowania tureckiego i austriackiego, aż po wojnę domową w latach 90. XX wieku oraz aktualne wydarzenia. Rozdział drugi jest poświęcony scharakteryzowaniu etnicznej struktury kraju oraz sposobu w jaki sami obywatele dokonują swojej identyfikacji. Rozdział trzeci porusza problem wielowyznaniowego charakteru państwa, w którym obok siebie żyją wyznawcy chrześcijaństwa, islamu oraz judaizmu. Ostatni rozdział pracy służy wyjaśnieniu zawiłych kwestii językowych w Bośni i Hercegowinie- wprowadzona została definicja języka bośniackiego, jego struktura oraz specyfika.
