Description
Summary:This thesis describes effects of ocean acidification on foraminiferal calcification and the potential of their calcite composition to reconstruct paleo-seawater carbonate chemistry. The first objective of this work is to develop and improve the mechanistic understanding of foraminiferal biomineralization (Topic 1). The second objective is to assess effects of ocean acidification on foraminiferal calcification and, in particular, to quantify the effects of different parameters of the carbonate system individually (Topic 2). In Topic 3 a new calibration of foraminiferal U/Ca ratio as a carbonate system proxy is described.
