Summary: | Wolf Canis lupus L. control actions in Romania over 1945-1959. The absence of any control of this species over 1941-1945, and the great its prolificity led to the upsurge of the wolf population throughout post war Romania. The study focused on the 1945-1959 period which was the most active one in decemating the species. What followed the signal of destruction at the end of 1950 was simply control proliferation. As a matter of fact, the number of specimens killed was far greater than reported in official documents because many wolves died away from poisoming sites or if wounded expired ar a distance from the spot where they been hunted. As a result many individuals could not be listed. The data presented in this paper speak of man’s intervention in the evolution of a animal species. |
