Description
Summary:New data on the stable oxygen and hydrogen isotopic composition of freshwater lakes of Schirmacher oasis, east Antarctica are presented. Spatial variation of tritium, deuterium and oxygen-18 isotopes in lake waters has been interpreted in terms of their environmental significance. Low levels of tritium indicate no significant input from station activities. Variation in δ18O and δ2H values is attributed to difference in relative contribution from glacial cover and fresh snow precipitation.
