Description
Summary:For monitoring abundance and distribution of snow crab in the Barents Sea, data from the bottom trawl surveys in winter (February) and in autumn (August-September) are used. The data collected in the autumn survey is especially important, since provide the basis for quota advice on the fishery for snow crab in the Svalbard Fishery Protection Zone (SFPZ). For these surveys the standard rigging of the bottom trawl (Campelen 1800 shrimp trawl) is specified for catching demersal fish, and is not well designed for catching crabs. Among others it specifies a “rock-hopper” rubber gear of 40cm diameter. publishedVersion
