Description
Summary:In 1962 cod eggs and larvae were a little more numerous in the Lofoten area than in the previous year. (Table 1). Maxima of spawning and hatching occurred a fortnight earlier than in 1961. Eggs of saithe and Norway pout were more scarce at Skrova than in the previous year, with a maximum of 65 eggs per m^2 at the beginning of April. On the coastal banks from Sklinna Bank to Ona herring larvae were numerous during the first half of April, with average concentrations of 629-58 larvae per m^2 of sea surface. No larvae were taken off Cape Stad. During the first week more than 80 per cent of the larvae still had a yolk sack. At the end of April herring larvae were not taken farther south than the Frøya Bank.
