Description
Summary:During June 1975 observations were made on the distribution, abundance and year-class composition of capelin in the Barents Sea. The distribution and abundance of the capelin stock were found to be similar compared with the same time in 1974. However, there was a change in stock composition as the proportion of 3 year old fish in the stock in 1975 was much larger than in 1974. The distribution area was divided into four growth areas. There was an increase in the growth of the capelin from the northern to the southern part of the distribution area. Newly hatched capelin larvae were found at the Murman Coast and Varanger, indicating an extended spawning season.
