Description
Summary:Roy G. Klehm was born to Carl H. Klehm and Lois E. (Bolte) Klehm. He is a fourth generation member of the Klehm family which has been in the horticulture business since 1853 when his great-grandfather, John Klehm, started to acquire acreage over several years in Arlington Heights, and built a business of growing fruit trees and flowers. Roy’s father, Carl (son of Charles Klehm and grandson of John Klehm) became owner and operator of Charles Klehm and Son Nurseries which was located at Arlington Heights and Algonquin Roads in Arlington Heights, upon his father’s death in 1957. The nursery became solely a wholesale operation and moved to South Barrington, Illinois in 1984 where it operated until 2004. As of 2010, Roy and his wife Sarah (nee Troy), whom he married on September 27, 1964, own and operate Beaver Creek Nursery in northern Illinois and Klehm’s Song Sparrow Perennial Farm in southern Wisconsin. Beaver Creek is a wholesale nursery for professional growers and Song Sparrow a wholesale nursery and retail mail-order operation.
