Summary:Replica of the extinct great auk, a flightless bird that was once widely distributed across the North Atlantic Ocean. Humans hunted the great auk for food, and for its fat and feathers, eventually driving this species to extinction. After the great auk disappeared specimens became so difficult to obtain that the museum chose to create this replica from the feathers of the other birds.
