Summary:Sgt. Glenn Maker was born in Chicago Ridge in 1918 at 10610 Princess Avenue. Glenn Maker enlisted in the Service March 10, 1939 and was a Sergeant in the Glider Infantry. He spent five years of service in Panama, Iceland, England and the Western Front. He was twenty-seven years old when he was wounded and died in a Belgian hospital January 4, 1945. He was the only soldier of Chicago Ridge who was not fortunate enough to return home from World War II and to him the American Legion Post #1160 at 10739 South Ridgeland Avenue and Auxiliary is dedicated. His mother Mary Maker (nee Hankes) was the first woman trustee of Chicago Ridge, Ill. and his great-uncle Henry Schmalen was an early president of Chicago Ridge, Ill.
