Viðfangsefnin hafa verið allt frá frumspeki til hagnýtrar heimspeki. Páll skrifaði fjölmargar greinar um menntun, gagnrýna hugsun, eðli háskóla og mikilvægi menntunar og lýðræðislegs skólastarfs fyrir farsælt samfélag, en greinin Menntun og stjórnmál frá árinu 1987 varð einmitt kveikja að mínum eigin skrifum um heimspeki menntunar. Það vekur athygli að þegar Páll ræðir erfiðustu mál samtímans á sviði stjórnmála og siðfræði þá snýr hann ævinlega að menntamálum. Því má segja um Pál, líkt og um John Dewey, að heimspeki hans sé ávallt öðrum þræði menntaheimspeki. Það einkenndi auk þess Pál sem heimspeking að hann vildi ekki einungis skilja tengsl manns og heims heldur vildi hann rækta þessi tengsl. Menntun, samkvæmt skilningi Páls, felst einmitt í ræktun þessara tengsla.
