| Summary: | Abstract Arab modernization brought many changes, one of them was in literary studies. Arabic literature began to lose its identity, both in terms of content (madmun) and form (syakl). Seeing this, one of the Arab writers formed a movement to maintain the identity of classical Arabic literature. This study will try to discuss classical Arabic literature as a response to Arab modernization through a historical approach. In addition, the researcher also used a qualitative descriptive method. The study results showed that the birth of classical Arabic literature is a response to Arab Modernization. In contrast to the emergence of classical literature in the West, where it is an innovation to usher in the West in modern times. The Arab modernization began with the arrival of Napoleon and the French to Egypt, they led Egyptian civilization to become more advanced and modern, one of which was in the literary studies. In modern times, Arabic literature has undergone several changes, both in terms of content (madhmun) and form (syakl), thus encouraging the birth of classical Arabic literature. This genre was pioneered by Mahmud Sami Al Barudi, where aims to maintain and preserve the peculiarities of classical Arabic literature, such as using wazan or poem patterns (arudh) and rhyme (qofiyah). Kesusastaan Arab mulai kehilangan jati dirinya, baik dari segi isi (madmun) ataupun bentuk (syakl). Melihat hal tersebut, salah satu sastrawan Arab membentuk gerakan untuk mempertahankan kekhasan kesusastraan Arab klasik atau disebut aliran sastra Arab klasik. Penelitian ini akan mencoba membahas mengenai aliran sastra Arab klasik sebagai respon dari modernisasi Arab melalui pendekatan historis.
