| Summary: | Download for free Norwegian presence at Svalbard is important for the claim of Norwegian sovereignty and, hence, the choice of economic activities based there is of national importance. It was decided to stimulate a more varied economic base in Longyearbyen and an analysis of society and industrial affairs4 was commenced in 1992 (and since has been repeated annually) as a tool to monitor the development of settlement and economic activity. This report is the 2014 version of the analysis, which is based on similar methods to earlier versions. The data applied represent the situation at Svalbard in 2013. Before 2008, Longyearbyen Lokalstyre (LL – the local public administration body) collected information from all enterprises at Svalbard. From 2008 on, Statistics Norway collects this information and has now become the main data provider for the analysis. Summary in English.
