Summary: | Rishiri Island is located in the Sea of Japan off the west coast of Hokkaido, Japan. Stranding record at this island could be important information for understanding the migration of the cetacean in the Sea of Japan. A total of 21 stranding records were collected. Each stranding records consisted of one individual. The records include 6 Stejneger's beaked whales Mesoplodon stejnegeri (including one unidentified Mesoplodon), 4 Dall's porpoises Phocoenoides dalli (one truei-type, two dalli-type and one type unidentified), 4 harbor porpoises Phocoena phocoena, 3 Baird's beaked whales Berardius bairdii, 1 killer whale Orcinus orca, 1 beluga Delphinapterus leucas (sighting) and 2 unidentified cetaceans.
