Summary:Vigfus S. Asmundson, Professor Emeritus of Avian Sciences at the University of California, Davis, died on Tuesday, September 10, following a short illness. He was 78. Dr. Asmundson, who joined the faculty in 1932 and retired in 1963, received an honorary LL.D. degree in 1964, and was further honored in 1970 when the then Poultry Science Building was named for him. Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, he received a B.A. degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada, an M.A. degree from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin. He was known as an effective teacher of both graduates and undergraduates, and was widely recognized as an authority in the fields of genetics and physiology of turkeys and chickens. At his retirement, alumni in the poultry industry established the V. S. Asmundson Scholarship Fund in the Department of Avian Sciences to support outstanding students. He received the . . .
