Summary:Bacular development is described for the Weddell seal, Leptonychotes weddelli , based on specimens from 1 to 18 years of age. The bacular apex, cross-sectional configuration of the shaft, base, and other aspects are described and compared with other genera of phocids. The anterior dorsal aspect of the baculum of Leptonychotes is unique among phocids in development of a pronounced crest as an adult.
