Summary: | Over a 7-year period more than 50 000 smolts were tagged in the Rivers Usk, Wye, and Severn. A total of 228 of these fish was subsequently recaptured: 19 were taken at West Greenland; 3 were taken in British waters away from the Bristol Channel; and a further 100 fish were taken in tidal waters in the Severn estuary and Bristol Channel area. Of the remaining 106 salmon recaptured above tidal limits in home waters, 97 (92 %) were in their parent rivers, while 9 (8 %) had strayed to the freshwater reaches of other rivers. |
