Description
Summary:This paper describes palaeomagnetic measurements made on the Lower “Shales” of the Table Mountain Series, near Cape Town. The age of this formation is probably Silurian. Samples collected at the surface were found to be inconsistently magnetized, but those from a fine red mudstone bed exposed in a deep road cutting gave consistent results. Eight samples from this bed give a mean direction of D = 341°.8. I = 3°.5 with the south pole downwards.
