Description
Summary:Occasioned by the countries' strategic planning for the energy agenda of 2030, this dissertation aims to map Europe's network of interdependence with Russia and to further explore its expansionist policy in Eastern Europe through the existing patterns of cooperation. The aim of the research is to work out possible future scenarios for the development of the Russian energy sector. Also, by applying Spykman and Mackinder's theory of restraint, will predict the next moves of Russian foreign policy in terms of energy. The main question that arises from the existing international bibliography is: What is the goal of Russia’s energy expansion strategy in Europe. What are the patterns of Russia's cooperation in concluding energy agreements? What will be Russia's next move based on long-term economic forecasts. The following case studies will help answer the above questions. Another case study is the dispute between the US and Russia over the reserves in the Arctic Circle, but also how some states (eg Norway) will react on this issue. Finally, the Eastern Mediterranean is also a case study in terms of the energy confrontation between Russia and Europe. The aim of Russia’s energy strategy is to maintain its leading position in gas, but also to maintain its position oil too. This is so the state can offset the energy independence that the US has achieved through the production of shale oil. It is understood that US energy independence is going to change the world map of power. Στόχος της έρευνας είναι να εκπονήσει μελλοντικά πιθανά σενάρια της εξέλιξης του ...
