Summary:Nowadays we face the rise of international terrorism in several parts of the world. With the adoption of the New Concept of NATO the formal proclamation of the North Atlantic Alliance's war against terrorism followed. This work will be carried out research in areas where sources of recruitment, becoming the main source of recruitment for terrorist groups. Those areas where the geopolitical significance has been updated for the 21st century and fall under the realm of Greece are southeast Europe, the Black Sea Area, and the Caucasus. The research will focus on political factors that prevail, encourage the formation and action of such military groups. Factors that usually occur either the irredentism or the sociopolitical oppression suffered populations from lack of rule of law, either end of the surge of religious fundamentalism. The above factors encourage the emergence and development of terrorism at regional and global levels. Regarding religious extremism, it is necessary to provide an analysis of political Islam in the region. The analysis will include the difference between political Islam and the form envisioned by terrorist groups, the "struggle" between the western state model and "unfreedom" of Muslim populations, but if the model multiculturalism of the Western world and in particular the European Union has achieved its purpose. Concluding its presentation about the influence of fundamentalist Islam, the study will include the interaction of globalization on international cooperation against terrorist groups and the impact of this on their cooperation in the Middle East. This survey will include the context of international conventions against terrorism, international law on human rights, investigation and prosecution of terrorist offenses , international crimes committed during the anti-terrorism and whether the counter-terrorism agencies of countries in need of modernization and reforms.
