Summary:An existing multispectral airborne radiometer system (MARS) was upgraded to include measurement of downwelling spectral irradiance, as well as upwelled spectral radiance, from aircraft of opportunity. The MARS was deployed over the North Atlantic Ocean aboard NASA's P-3 aircraft during the JGOFS North Atlantic Bloom experiment in 1989. Atmospheric and surface reflection corrections, and ocean color algorithms were applied to the MARS data to derive transects of chlorophyll a concentration along aircraft trackliness. Results are given along selected flightliness. (AN)
