Summary:The investigation reported herein concerns the structural configuration to be recommended for the four ocean structures for the East Coast Air Combat Maneuvering Range, offshore Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. In this investigation, three configurations are considered in some depth, those being the skirt-pile, the four-pile and the three-pile concepts. Configurations being considered to a lesser degree are those designated as the caisson and modified caisson. Of the five configurations mentioned, that employed as the developed previously under another contract. The primary area of endeavor relative to this investigation deals with the development (for one water depth of the four-pile and three-pile configurations to a stage comparable to that of the skirt-pile structure. No work was done, as a part of this investigation, on the skirt-pile concept or on either of the caissons. Rather, development calculations for these configurations were simply reproduced and included herein for reference.
