Description
Summary:This report identified and evaluated several potentially hazardous waste disposal sites at Galena AFS, Campion AFS, Cape Lisburne AFS, Fort Yukon AFS, Indian Mountain AFS, Kotzebue AFS, Murphy Dome AFS, and Tin City AFS. Records of past waste handling and disposal practices were reviewed. Interviews with past and present installation employees were conducted to develop a history of waste disposal practices. The environmental setting for effectively receiving the wastes was evaluated including soils, geology, ground water and surface water. A total of 54 sites were found to have sufficient potential to create environmental contamination and follow-on investigations (Phase 2) were recommended and outlined. The sites requiring further action include landfills, dump areas, spill and leak areas, fire protection areas, communications areas, road oiling areas, and waste accumulation areas. Personally Identifiable Information (PII) was redacted.
