Description
Summary:The Operation and Maintenance, Navy appropriation finances the day-to-day operation of active Navy forces located in the United States and around the world, and supports those operations which have the most direct and immediate impact on the current readiness of the Navy. This appropriation requests include operating funds for 545 deployable battle force ships, 87 strategic sealift ships, 4,862 average operating aircraft (including Navy, Marines and Reserves), 4 Marine divisions, and a network of shore installations and commands. Naval forces, operating under the control of the unified and specified commanders, deploy to the Indian Ocean; Northern, Eastern and Western Pacific; North Atlantic; Central and Eastern Mediterranean; and Caribbean and Central America regions. The FY 1985 budget request for Strategic Forces reflects program increases in the Trident Program and ship maintenance and modernization, including one additional ship overhaul. In addition, the Command, Control and Logistic support for the Trident program increases, reflecting an increased number of operational submarines and the Kings Bay, Georgia development.
