Description
Summary:This report, Volume II, contains the appendices, A, B, C, to Volume I of the same title. Volume I describes sources and differences between the ice strengthening criteria in use by various classification societies, and government regulations such as Canadian Arctic Pollution Prevention Regulations, and Swedish-Finnish Winter Navigation Board Regulations. A comparison of the different criteria is presented on the basis of a relative weight and relative cost. Effectiveness of the criteria is evaluated on the basis of statistical ice damage data and on a sample of individual ice damage cases. In addition, a comparison of different materials and fabrication techniques used for ice strengthening is presented. Deficiencies in current ice strengthening procedures are identified and a rational procedure for selecting appropriate ice strengthening criteria is presented. See also Volume 1, AD-A120 601.
