Summary: | During the 1971 AIDJEX Pilot Study the University of Washington oceanographic study undertook: (1) Measurement of the time- and space-dependent velocity and Reynolds stress fields in the boundary layer under the ice, with typical topography using mechanical current meter systems; (2) current measurements to relate the deeper flows to those in the boundary layer and to determine the horizontal coherence of the flows at various scales up to about 30 miles; and (3) hydrographic measurements to determine the approach to geostrophy of the Arctic Ocean flow. |
