Summary:The study discusses the development of a computer program capable of performing the necessary dynamic computations to obtain estimates of the transports of mass, salt, and heat across the vertical cross section at 40 degrees N within the North Atlantic Ocean. Previous studies have used either different approaches to the problem or, if the same approach was used, then the data were averaged to eliminate seasonal effects. Temperature and salinity data from Crawford Cruise 16, 2 to 22 October 1957 of the International Geophysical Year, are used for the entire cross section of ocean.
