Description
Summary:The goal of the Seasonal Sea Ice Zone Reconnaissance Surveys (SIZRS) is to track and understand the interplay among the ice, atmosphere, and ocean contributing to the recent decline in summer ice extent. The SIZ is the region between maximum winter sea ice extent and minimum summer sea ice extent. Under this grant we coordinated various SIZRS projects making monthly sections of ocean, ice, and atmospheric measurements across the Beaufort-Chukchi sea seasonal sea ice zone (SIZ) utilizing US Coast Guard Arctic Domain Awareness (ADA) flights of opportunity in the summers of 2012- 2014. In addition to SIZRS coordination, this report covers our measurements of ocean temperature, salinity, velocity and mixing across the SIZ.
