Description
Summary:During the 1971 Gulf of Alaska Sonar Tests, 90 salinity, temperature, and sound-speed measurements, 24 temperature and sound-speed measurements, and 361 temperature measurements as functions of depth were recorded in an area approximately 200 nmi southeast of Kodiak Island, from 14 May 1971 to 21 July 1971. Fourteen temperature profiles as a function of depth were also made in transit from San Diego, California. This report contains a discussion of the instrumentation, in situ accuracy checks, data-reduction methods, and a comparison of the results with archived measurements. Appendix A contains tabulated values of the salinity, temperature, and sound-speed measurements made using STD/SV and SVTP systems, and Appendix B contains tabulated values of the temperature measurements made utilizing an XBT system.
