Summary:Biofouling data were collected by exposing test panels at selected sites and depths in the study areas. The investigations are a part of NAVOCEANO's program to determine the character and extent of marine fouling communities in various marine biological provinces. Attachment and growth of biofouling organisms were found to be primarily seasonal, but substantial amounts of fouling accumulate in the upper layers of the water column in 1 year. Penobscot Bay had a higher fouling rate than Placentia Sound, apparently related to the greater number of days per year when water temperatures were above 44F. (Author)
