Summary:An airplane equipped with an infrared radiation thermometer measured sea surface temperatures around Iceland in early April 1968. Sea ice prevented surveys directly north of the island. Temperatures to the northeast ranged from 0C at the ice boundary to 4C at the prime meridian. An oceanic front located east of Iceland was followed to the Faeroe Islands using an aircraft tracking technique. To the south and southwest temperatures were a uniform 7 or 8C but dropped to 5 or 6C near shore. (Author)
