Description
Summary:The author summarizes data in the literature on white whale (beluga) distribution in the White Sea and reports his own observations made in 1957 and 1958. It is concluded that white whales winter in the central basin of the White Sea and in the northern Onezhskiy and Dvinskiy Bays. The wintering areas are restricted by the ice cover and white whales do not enter the White Sea from the outside until after the ice breakup in May.
