Summary:A novel design of parka hood was given a limited field trial at Fort Churchill. The hood was intended to give complete protection against frostbite, while maintaining full vision and preventing fogging or frosting of spectacles. Various experiments with minor modifications of the hood were tried under a variety of weather conditions. Complete protection against frostbite was achieved, and frosting was prevented at high wind chills. At low wind chills some slight fogging and frosting effects were still encountered. Some further modifications of the hood were made, and limited field trials were again carried out at Yellowknife, NWT. These modified hoods were successful in preventing frostbite and maintaining clear vision. (Author)
